steamworks-mcp
Put your game on Steam with your AI assistant.
It reads your game project, asks you what it cannot find, writes your store page with you, checks everything against Valve's rules, and fills in Steamworks only after you say yes. It never publishes anything: you press Publish.

From your game folder to Steamworks
One readable file in your game folder, steamworks.yaml, holds every Steam setting. You approve each value; the tool does the legwork.
- 01
Scan
Reads your Unity, Godot or Unreal project: name, platforms, saves, controller support, achievements and stats in code.
- 02
Ask
Asks short batches of questions for what the project cannot tell it, in plain words.
- 03
Draft
Your assistant writes the store page, achievements and settings; the server cuts every image from your art.
- 04
You approve
Nothing counts until you say it is right. Every value has a status: draft, approved, done in Steamworks, or needs review if it changed after you approved it.
- 05
Check & fill
Checks everything against Valve's rules, then gives you a checklist, or fills Steamworks after a dry run and your OK.
Account, bank and tax forms, the app fee.
Texts, images, tags, languages, content survey.
The game, Steam Cloud, achievements, depots.
Date, price, and the Release button (yours).
The four release steps Valve reviews. The tool shows how far your game is on each one and the one thing to do next.
Talk to it like a producer who knows Steamworks
No commands to learn. These all work:
Store page, market, code, Steamworks
Store page
- Briefs from your answers; your assistant writes, the server checks Valve's rules and a rubric
- Short description, About This Game, preview with the first screen marked
- Every capsule, library image and icon cut from one key art and one logo
- Every text translated into every target language, kept in step when the source changes
Market
- What the closest popular games' store pages do, as patterns (never their words)
- Prices of close games in the US and per country, turned into your regional prices
- What players of these games praise and criticize, from their reviews
- After launch: reviews, players and price against the last check
Your game code
- 24 Steamworks rules with file, line and fix: app id 480, unchecked init, missing StoreStats, leaked keys, Steam Deck
- Steam SDK code with your exact app id and achievement, stat and leaderboard names
- Unity (Steamworks.NET, Facepunch), Godot (GodotSteam), Unreal and plain C++
Steamworks
- Files plus a checklist naming the Steamworks page and field for each one
- Or fills Steam Cloud, installation, achievements, store page, images, depots and leaderboards for you
- Always a dry run first, a snapshot before every write, and nothing ever published

You need uv, a small tool that runs Python programs (one command to install), and Claude, ChatGPT or Codex.

Claude Desktop
In a terminal. It asks where your games are and connects Claude Desktop (and Claude Code, if you have it). Restart Claude Desktop afterwards.

The plugin brings the server and all 36 skills in one step and asks for your games folder.

These apps connect over the internet, through a secure address on your computer. Keep the terminal open while you work.
- 1Install Cloudflare's free cloudflared once (Windows: the first command; Mac: brew install cloudflared).
- 2Run steamworks-mcp remote. The first time it asks where your games are, then prints an address ending in /mcp and an access code.
- 3Add the address with OAuth. ChatGPT on the web: Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced settings › Developer mode, then create a connector. ChatGPT desktop app: Settings › Plugins › MCPs › Add. claude.ai: Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector.
- 4A steamworks-mcp page opens: type the access code.

One setup covers the Codex app, CLI and IDE extension. Codex runs the server on your computer: no tunnel, no access code, and it asks before every tool that changes something.
- 1Run the setup command in a terminal.
- 2Type the folder that holds your games. The keys it offers are optional: Enter skips them.
- 3When it asks “Codex?”, answer y (also if it says “not found”).
- 4Restart Codex.
uvx steamworks-mcp setupThen ask your assistant: “Where are my games on Steam?” More setups (Cursor, a fixed address for ChatGPT) are in the advanced guide.
Something not working?
Start with uvx steamworks-mcp doctor: it shows what is set up and the command that fixes each problem. The common ones:
- The app says the server failed to start, or “spawn uvx ENOENT”
- The app cannot find uvx. Run uvx steamworks-mcp setup again (it writes uvx’s full path), then restart the app.
- “The games folder is not set yet”
- Run uvx steamworks-mcp setup and type the folder that holds your game projects. With the Claude Code plugin, set Games folder in the plugin’s settings.
- “… is outside the workspace root”
- Your game is not inside the games folder. Run setup again and pick a folder that contains it.
- Every tool shows up twice in Claude Code
- It is set up twice (the plugin and setup). doctor prints the command that removes the extra one.
- The first start of the Claude Code plugin is slow or times out
- The first start installs what the server needs. Wait a minute and restart Claude Code.
- remote says the port is in use
- It already runs in another terminal. Close that one, or use the port it suggests.
- ChatGPT or claude.ai cannot reach the server
- Keep the remote terminal open. Its address changes each time it starts: update the connector’s URL.
- “Run the dry run first” or “changed since the dry run”
- Steam or your values changed after you saw the changes. Ask for the dry run again and check the new changes.
What it never does
- Publish, submit for review or release anything: you press Publish
- Write to Steamworks without a dry run and your OK, or write values you have not approved
- Ask for, type or store passwords or Steam Guard codes
- Write into your game project: generated code goes to a folder for you to copy
- Generate artwork, or send your texts to a translation or AI service
Before you start
- Do I need Steam keys or a Steam login?
- Not to start. The scan, questions, drafts, checks, images, market study and export packages all work on your machine. A publisher key and the optional browser mode only matter when you want the tool to read or fill Steamworks itself.
- Which engines?
- Unity, Godot and Unreal projects are scanned. Any other engine works too: you answer the questions instead of the scan.
- Where do my texts go?
- Nowhere new. Your own assistant (Claude, ChatGPT or Codex) writes and translates; the server runs on your computer and only checks and stores the result. Market data comes from Steam’s public store pages.
- Is it free?
